Welcome to Streetcar News

There is a process underway to look at changing the St Clair West streetcar, including the possibility of a dedicated right-of-way like they have on Queen's Quay and Spadina.

This section has been created to keep you posted on developments and provide an opportunity to voice your comments and concerns.

Check back often as this story is breaking fast ... and email us with any information or comments you might have.


Committee Approves DROW

Following a marathon deputation session, the combined Plannning & Transportation and Works & Emergency Services approved the DROW proposal to go to City Council for a vote.

Deputations will be made at the combined TTC, Transportation & Planning and Works & Emergency Services committees on Monday Sep 13 at City Hall (details to follow) with the matter going to City Couincil for a vote at the end of the month.

St Clair Right-of-way Initiative for Public Transit (SCRIPT)

This is the website of a community group specifically formed to promote the dedicated right-of-way alternative for the the St Clair West streetcar.

Save Our St Clair (SOS)

This is the website of a community group specifically formed to oppose the dedicated right-of-way alternative for the the St Clair West streetcar (the group was originally called St Clair Now and In The Future or SNAF)

Black Creek Regional Transportation Management Association (BCRTMA)

An advocacy group for improved transit service and other transportation management enhancements and infrastructure programs that will benefit the community overall

Canadian Urban Transportation Association (CUTA)

They state that they are the voice for enhancing the public transit industry in Canada.

Corso Italia BIA

The Corso Italia BIA, located onlong St Clair between Dufferin and Lansdowne, has firmly stated that while they are in favour of transit improvements they are firmly opposed to a dedicated right-of-way. They have posted a number of news articles relating to the issue.

Hardy Stevenson and Associates

The firm hired by the consultants condusting the Environmental Assessment (EA) (see Marshall Macklin Monaghan below) to faciliate the public consultations, including the first round of public meetings

The firm hired by the City of Toront to conduct the Environmental Assessment (EA) dealing with changes to the St Clair streetcar service

Rocket Riders

A non-profit citizens advocacy group dedicated to public transit issues in the Greater Toronto Area.

St Clair West Revitalization Committee (SWRC)

A volunteer community group seeking to improve socio-economic conditions in the area centred on the west section of St Clair Ave W who have expressed a strong interest in this issue

Toronto Transportation Society (TTS)

Their stated focus is primarily on transit in and around the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) but does include the Golden Horseshoe as well.

Transit Toronto

A web site wherein fans of the Toronto Transit Commission have gathered information on the system. It is our goal to show you, with articles and photographs, how the system ticks, what goes on behind the scenes, and the subtleties of the equipment, be it the TTC's subway, its streetcars, its buses, or its sister system, GO Transit.
