Members
of the St Clair Community are encouraged
to help support the children who survived
the recent tragedy on Lansdowne.
The
letter below outlines how you can help.
We
at MyStClair hope that you will see it in
your heart to give.
Dear
Regal Heights Residents,
As you are probably aware, the 7-year-old
boy who discovered the murder-suicide of
his mother and an acquaintence last week
attended Regal Road P.S. He was, as the
police told reporters, mature well beyond
his years, leading his 3- and 4-year-old
siblings out of the apartment in the middle
of the night and taking them to safety at
a neighbour's home. The next day, this remarkable
child even told a member of Regal Road's
staff that he was sorry for missing school
that day.
The school community feels tremendously
sad for <the student> and his two
siblings; no child should ever have to endure
such an experience -- not only the violence
of the act itself, but the terrible uncertainty
that awaits them. The children are currently
staying with relatives, and it is not clear
where they will live.
You may know that the Children's Aid Foundation
has set up a trust fund, named after <the
student's> late mother, Cimmeron. The
organization, which is the fundraising arm
of the Children's Aid Society, is accepting
donations from members of the public. Donations
can be made online, at www.cafdn.org or
by phone, 416-923-0924, or by cheques payable
to Cimmeron's Fund, c/o Children's Aid Foundation,
25 Spadina Road, Toronto, ON M5R 2S9. Should
you prefer, cheques can be left at the school
office and we will take responsibility for
ensuring that they reach the foundation.
The Regal Road School Council will make
a donation to this trust, and we are currently
in the process of determining how much to
give. I would also personally like to urge
members of the Regal Road community to contribute
whatever they feel is an appropriate amount.
Victoria and I have donated $100.
Money, obviously, won't solve the most serious
issues <the student> and his siblings
now face. But it can provide them, and their
future caregivers, with some much-needed
stability in a highly uncertain and traumatic
time.
I
hope you will join us in helping them in
any way you can.
Sincerely,
John Lorinc & Victoria Foote,
