Today
marked the end of an era.
That's
right, the Forum, the men's clothing store
that defined the corner of St Clair and Dufferin
for so many years - and then continued to
define men's fashion when it moved along St
Clair east to Oakwood, has closed it's doors.
Dominic
Cappella, the owner and founder, has decided
to combine the store with A Cappella, which
is run by his son Victor. Also a signature
men's fashion store, it is located on the
north side at Arlington - just across the
street and down the block from two other St
Clair landmarks, Ferro's and Fillipo's.
The
move was prompted when the lease expired and
the new rent represented a significant increase.
It's hoped a new tenant of the same calibre
and quality as the Forum will move into the
location - noted for it's hardwood floors
and original tin ceiling. The area is on the
upswing. Not only have there been improvements
to the building at the corner of Oakwood,
now occupied by Mac's, MegWraps and Curves
- but the local merchants are looking at joining
the St Clair West BIA (Business Improvement
Area) to their west to help make the area
even more attractive to shoppers.
Of
course, Victor Cappella knows well the advantages
of a Business Improvement Area, as he is chair
of the Hillcrest Village BIA, which runs from
Winona east to Christie.
Beau
Cappella, Domenic's other son, who had been
helping to run the Forum (and was also on
our Majors Bandwagon this past spring) will
also be making the move east.
