Last
night members of community groups from one
end of St Clair to the other met at Holy Rosary
Parish Hall to discuss the streetcar issue.
The
informal gathering was organized by MyStClair
to provide an opportunity to share information
and openly discuss the matter.
Following
a brief comment by the facilitator, representatives
of each organization came up to the podium
to share what they knew about what was going
on, what position if any they had taken on
the matter and what next steps they were planning
to take. A summary of these comments is available
here.
While
formal invitations had not been extended to
anyone other than local community groups,
it was clearly stated that this was an open
meeting for anyone to attend. Members of the
audience included a senior member of the EA
Study Team conducting the investigation of
transit options for St Clair as well as Councillor
for Ward 21 Joe Mihevc, who is also Vice-Chair
of the TTC.
Keeping
with the informal tone of the meeting and
in response to a suggestion from someone in
the audience, Councillor Mihevc was invited
to the podium to address some of the comments
made and to answer questions.
There
was a general sense that the meeting was a
good thing and similar meetings in the future
may be warranted, although no defintive plans
were made.
