St.
Alphonsus Catholic Church, on the northeast
corner of St. Clair Avenue West and Vaughan
Road has served more than one denomination.
It was built in 1924 as St. Colomba's Presbyterian
Church, and following the union of Protestant
denominations that year, prospered for several
decades as a United Church.
As
the population in the neighbourhood changed,
the congregation left the building and
joined St. Matthew's United Church down the
street in the 1960s. The building now serves
the Roman Catholic community.
