Streetcar Right-of-Way - The Story So Far
Feb 5, 2003

http://www.ttc.ca/postings/gso-comrpt/documents/report/f1656/_conv.htm

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is considering a major change to the St Clair West streetcar line.

The idea is to establish a right-of-way for the streetcars along the full length of the line. A similar development is already in place on Spadina and Queen's Quay.
There is also thought being given to extending the line to Jane Street.

The history on this goes as follows:
- the line is scheduled for a major overhaul in 2004
- when the matter was raised the idea was floated to look at
establishing a right-of-way because St Clair is quite wide
and it could possibly accommodate a right-of-way
- the Councillors for the area agreed that it should be given   consideration
- it was decided that an environmental assessment should be conducted
- approval to proceed with the assessment is before City Council

If the assessment gives a green light we understand the next step is to have public meetings to get input from the communities affected.

We are working on getting dates for what will happen next so stay tuned.
The TTC is currently considering three design concepts - one of them based on the Spadina line and the other two modelled on the Queen's Quay line. We are also working on getting a hold of these so check back.

The link below will take you to the report on the TTC site which addresses this plan:

It makes for interesting reading.

We are planning to set up a poll in this section so you can register your opinions about this important development - so, once again, be sure to check back.
And if you find out anything you would like to share with your neighbours let us know.
