Thanks for your email.
There are two points that I wanted to respond to:
1) TTC 'backroom deals': there are no backroom deals here.
The TTC has a job to do, and it serves no one's interests to accuse
them of inappropriate behaviour. The TTC is not alone in working
on the matter as it involves a number of city departments and
agencies. There is no evidence to suggest that any of these departments
or person have acted in anything but a professional manner.
2) The $25 million cited in a few reports will be spent one way
or another. It is not a new $25 million to do a right of way.
The track work needs to be done one way or another and the basic
cost of that is $25 million. The incremental cost of a possible
right of way may be more, but that incremental costs as yet has
not been assessed.
There is clearly a debate worthy of public attention here. However,
the basis of the debate needs to be good information and a basic
respect for the various stakeholders involved.
