Majors Come Up Short Against Colts
Sun Mar 5, 2006

Mar 5, 2006 – The Majors and Colts engaged in a hard-fought, entertaining battle at St. Mike’s Arena this afternoon. Unfortunately, the bounces didn’t seem to go the Majors way, and a late rally wasn’t quite enough as they were defeated 4-3. With the loss, their record shifts to 30-23-6-3 on the season.

The Majors started the game strong, but quickly fell victim to the Colts power-play. Hunter Tremblay and Bryan Little provided man-advantage goals for Barrie at 16:29 of the 1st period and 1:29 of the 2nd. The helpers were credited to Little, Dave Pszenyczny, Mike Roelofsen and Ryan Hamilton. Tyler Donati cut the lead in half with a power-play goal of his own at 12:16 of the middle frame, off of Jeff Larsh and Cory Vitarelli feeds. Yet, Jakub Petruzalek made it 3-1 for the visitors with just over 3 minutes to play in the 2nd period. The support came from Tremblay and Andrew Marshall.

Hamilton made it 4-1 for the Colts when he found the net on the power-play at 4:50 of the 3rd period off of Petruzalek and Pszenzyczny passes. The Majors stormed back with their 2nd and 3rd goals at 12:53 and 18:54. The goalscorers were Donati and Steve Spade with the assists going to Vitarelli, Jaroslav Mrazek and Justin Donati. Then, it appeared as though Micheal Haley had tied up the game with only seconds remaining but it wasn’t meant to be.

Wayne Savage finished the day with 25 saves for the Majors while Dan LaCosta had 32 stops for the Colts. Barrie was 3 for 7 on the power-play while Toronto was 1 for 7. The game’s three stars were Tremblay (1st), T. Donati (2nd) and Little (3rd).

It’s another exciting set of games for the Majors next weekend as they inch closer to the playoffs. They host the Oshawa Generals on Thursday evening (March 9th) at 7:30 pm, visit the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night (March 10th) at 7:30 pm and return home to entertain the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon (March 12th) at 2:00 pm. Both of the home games will be broadcast on Rogers television in the Toronto region, channel 10 or 63, while all three contests will be webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.
