[St Mike's Majors] Captain Completes Career with Class
Sun Mar 18, 2007

Toronto, Ont. (Sunday, Mar. 18, 2007) – The St. Michael's Majors were defeated 6-5 in overtime by the visiting Belleville Bulls this afternoon. However, the bigger story was that Majors captain Micheal Haley placed an exclamation point on his OHL career with a two-goal performance. As a result, he records the first 30-goal season of his career.

That gives the Majors a 20-41-4-3 record to wrap-up the year.

Mike Pelech gave the Majors the early lead, scoring off of Haley and Jesse Messier feeds, on the power-play, 53 seconds into the game. However, Shawn Matthias got on a roll for the Bulls, with the tying and go-ahead goals at 7:54 (shorthanded) and 11:25. The helpers were given to Matthew Tipoff and Bryan Cameron.

Haley drew the Majors even at 13:18 of the 1st, on the power-play, after accepting a pass from goaltender Wayne Savage. Unfortunately, the Bulls received goals from Matt Beleskey and Cameron at 7:44 and 12:58 of the 2nd period, to go ahead 4-2. The support on these tallies came from Tipoff, Tyler Doig, Andrew Gibbons and Marc Cantin.

The Majors bounced right back with Byron Elliott and Haley markers at 14:09 (power-play) and 16:20, with the assists going to Matt Piva, Matt McCready and Kaspars Daugavins.

In the 3rd period, the Bulls jumped back in front 5-4 at 9:29 when P.K. Subban fired home a power-play shot after accepting Gibbons and Tipoff feeds. However, the Majors still didn't go away as Jason Cassidy lit the lamp at 11:22 after receiving Daugavins and McCready feeds, to tie the game at five.

Haley came within a few inches of producing his first OHL hat trick in overtime but the Majors had to settle for the single point as Matthias finished things off at 3:49 with Matt Pelech and Nick Pageau collecting the final helpers.

Wayne Savage ended the day with 44 saves for the Majors while Mike Murphy supplied 36 for the Bulls.

The Majors were 3 for 6 on the power-play while the Bulls were 1 for 8. And, the game's three stars were Haley (1st), Matthias (2nd) and Daugavins (3rd).

The Majors organization would like to thank its fans for all of the support they received this season. Stay tuned to www.stmichaelsmajors.com for team news throughout the summer.
